Old Enough

Apparently, I look younger than I am. Since I started work, I have been receiving frequent queries as to my age, and surprise at my answer. People take me for about twenty-one, unless I am buying alcohol, in which case they take me for under twenty-one. Some people state, in jest, that they would have guessed that I was about twelve. On one occasion, when I mentioned graduating, someone thought I meant graduating from high school.

  • Maybe they wouldn't be as surprised if you stopped wearing your child-sized Batman costume. Wait, that's me.

Either take advantage of it and pay kid prices or just show them your AARP card.

  • I get that all the time! And after people guess my age and realize that they guessed something super low, they try to recover it with "well, at least you'll enjoy that you look younger when you get old!"

I always think to myself, "Nope. I heard that one a million times before."

  • I don't mind having my age underestimated. At least it is based on my appearance, and not on my behavior. I think.

  • i also get the "you look so young" thing, which gets old (pun intended). last week i went to a bar with a friend and when we walked in, the bartender asked to see her ID and not mine. i said, "hey, don't you need to card me?" and he kinda rolled his eyes in this "damn old ladies fishing for compliments" kinda way. that was waaaay worse than getting carded or having someone say "you look like you're 23!"

  • A guy at an airport told me I looked like I was 14 recently. But then this little girl I met during spring break told me she though I was 111. So I guess it evens out.
